are you scared?
are you afraid to go to sleep?
are you afraid to dream big?
are you afraid of setting a big goal?
it’s natural in this modern age.
everyone has commitment issues in 2 main things
relationships (I get it)
agency (the ability to set a track and pursue that track and not fall off)
I don’t give relationship advice.
so let me talk to you about bowling alleys.
i don’t give bowling alley advice, but here’s a picture :
normally, this “analogy” is used to describe free lead -> paying customer conversion.
I won’t talk about that.
I’ll tell you exactly how to never fall off again (even if you do “fall off”)
I think that’s more important.
we’ll reference this bowling alley a lot, so keep it in mind.
so, let me talk to you about it :
3 things.
ball (you)
bumpers (the key to not falling off)
pins (goal)
the trifecta. easy to remember. so remember.
there are 2 types of goals.
macro and micro.
macro (big goal)
micro (small goal)
macro is the big goal, the “dream”
micro is the small goals along the way, the “milestones”
I don’t want you to overload your brain, so just remember the macro (big goal)
the pins are your macro goal, your dream life.
by dream life, I mean dream life, the biggest dream you could imagine.
don’t be afraid to dream.
james dyson (the founder of dyson) had his perspective changed on life when he saw a book title.
“the biggest dreamer”
at first, he thought it was an insult.
then he realised, it was quite the opposite.
he read it.
then he went on to create the biggest cleaning product in the world.
he had a “dream”
you know how people would say “I’ll hoover the floor”?
he had a dream for people to say “I’ll dyson the floor”
he had no engineering degree or skills, no money, but a vision.
fast forward a few years.
13.1 Billion USD net worth.
he achieved it, because of one thing :
bowling alleys.
I’ll teach you exactly how you can use this in your life.
you know…
everyone sets out a goal to become a millionaire once in their life.
but what separates those who do, and those who don’t?
the ones who don’t…
they let go of their vision.
the “bumpers” in the bowling alley retract.
the single thing separating you and your dream life is keeping the bumpers up.
and here’s how you do it :
first, we’ll reference this image again.
let’s get one thing straight…
you’ll fall off.
it’s natural.
everything in life has “seasons”
the waves go up and down.
the seasons change.
the sun and moon fluctuates.
so will you.
it’s a universal truth, there is no human that will not “fall off”
you can fight it, but you can’t fight against a law of nature.
but what you can do… is prevent falling off completely.
remember what I told you about the one difference between those who make it, and those who don’t?
they let go of their vision.
they retract their bumpers, and they flow to the other lane.
they let go of their “dream”
and they end up “flowing” to the other lane.
their macro goal has changed.
their macro goal is now survival.
paycheck to paycheck, survival.
survival is scarcity.
scarcity is a lack of abundance.
and true wealth by definition, is abundance.
so, enough talk. let’s get into practical advice.
bowling ball, you.
pins, macro goal.
bumpers, your key.
the bumpers stay up as long as you don’t let go of your vision.
no matter how bad you fall off, don’t let go of the vision.
don’t ever switch to the other lane.
don’t ever settle for mediocrity.
you settle for your macro goal.
success is never a straight line, you know that.
you say to yourself "i just need to sell a product for £100 a thousand times! I’m a millionaire!”
you start. get your first couple sales.
then your car breaks down. 5k in repairs. or it’s completely written off.
well, it’s gone to shit.
but that’s the game.
you’ve hit a “bumper”
now you’re set back 6 months.
you get back up, 6 months later.
now, what do you do?
you’re in a boxing ring with prime mike tyson. the first rounds just ended.
you’re at the corner. bloodied up. you can feel a concussion coming in.
your coach says “you wanna carry on?”
fuck that.
any human will think that.
any human.
but, do you carry on?
do you keep the bumpers up and survive 11 more rounds?
11 more rounds of this? each round you get more fucked up?
that’s the game.
you either hold, or you sell.
do you sell? and settle?
or do you survive another 11 hits of the bumper?
because at the end of those 11 hits, you reach the pins.
but humans don’t think 5 years down the line.
they think presently.
you’re programmed to think in terms of seconds, not years.
so, do you carry on?
do you fight against human nature?
setbacks. that’s the name of the game.
each setback. you hit a bumper.
do you go back in for another round?
or do you back out?
you’ll never settle, correct?
so go into it. expect to hit another bumper.
each bumper is one step closer to the pins.
survive until you knock the pins down.
that’s the game.
setbacks aren’t failures.
they’re bumpers.
keep the bumpers up. you’ll hit the pins eventually.
don't ever let go of the vision.
don’t retract. ever.
this is the one thing that will make or break you.
just. survive.
d42.
and by the way…
you may have a goal.
but you don’t have a “vehicle” to get you there.
so, you should get one.
